Cardinal Francis George has set up a state wide task force to see if there is anything legally that can be done to allow Catholic Charities state wide adoption arm to continue to discriminate against LGBT Couples.
The Rainbow Sash Movement (RSM) does not believe that this approach will resolve anything, on the contrary it will only highlight the obvious divide, and that is not beneficial for sincere dialog between two opposing opinions. Unless the Cardinal is willing to have an open dialogue process with the other side nothing has a chance of getting resolved. Both sides must agree to come to the the table without their respective baggage.
Lacking this type of integrity, the outcome of the Cardinal’s actions will be disastrous to the Catholic Charities adoption arm, and will only negatively impact innocent children. We are calling on both sides of the issue to sit down, and discuss this matter with the intent of having the children as their primary focus.
Surely we can do better. We believe there are people of goodwill on both sides of the divide, and it is to them we are addressing ourselves. We hope that the Rockford Diocese was an exception to the response to the new Civil Union’s Law that goes into affect June 1, 2011.
The Rainbow Sash Movement has signaled the Archdiocese of Chicago its willingness to act as go between with the LGBT Community only if there is a sincere willingness to achieve some reasonable resolve to this obvious impasse.
